きのうの深夜（というか、正確には今日ですが）、寝る前に何気なく
つけたケーブルテレビのCNNでフランス大統領選の結果を知りました。
ちょうど、サルコジ氏が勝利演説をしているところで、「フランス語
→ 英語」の同時通訳が入っていました。
（おお、もう結果が出たんか）と、思わず食い入るように見て
しまいましたよ。（あ、今日の英語ニュースのネタはこれやな）
とその瞬間に決定(^_^)！
今回のフランス大統領選、両候補のテレビ討論の様子が日本でも
取り上げられていましたね。感情が高ぶるロワイヤル候補を
サルコジ候補がたしなめてよけい怒らせた（？）場面は印象的
でした。
CNNに出た数字では、今回の決選投票の投票率はなんと85％
（だったと思う）！自国の大統領を選ぶって、やっぱり関心が
高いのでしょう。
日本は政治システムが違うので一概に比べられませんが、
思わず投票所に行きたくなるような選挙戦、一度は経験して
みたいもんです。

毎回の英語ニュース、ネタがすぐに見つかるときとそうでないときがあります。大きな事件や話題が重なったときは（う〜ん、どれにしよう・・・）と迷ってしまうほど。逆に、何もなくてめぼしい題材を探し回ることも。
アナ・ニコル・スミスさんのニュースは、今朝、テレ朝の番組を見ていたときに飛び込んできたもの。名前を聞いても、すぐに誰だかわかりませんでした^^;
いろいろ調べてみると、この女性の経歴、まるで映画のヒロインのように波乱万丈でした。マリリン・モンローを思わせる金髪に豊満な容姿、こぼれるような笑顔、あれは天然のものではなかったようです。
モンローにあこがれて豊胸手術、整形手術を受け、プレイメイトとして活躍。テレビ番組にも出演して有名になり、テキサスの大金持ちである石油王と結婚します。相手は89歳の高齢で翌年死亡し、巨額の遺産をめぐって彼の息子と法廷闘争に巻き込まれます。
これだけでもスゴいですが、その後、美貌+富を手にした彼女は堕落したのか、一時、別人のように「劇太り」します。（「巨ブタ」という表現でやじられたほど・・・）それからまた、サプリメントでダイエットしてスリムな体型を取り戻したそうです。
ホテルで倒れて急死した原因はわかっていませんが、財産をめぐっての陰謀なのか、もしくは、無理なダイエットで服用した薬の副作用なのか。今後の報道に注目です。
彼女の周囲で謎の死を遂げる人物（実の息子や結婚相手の息子）が続出していたのも気がかりです^^;
